What distinguishes you from other counselors? My 20 years as a pastoral minister have given me an incredible opportunity to now integrate my training as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with my experience helping people use their faith and spirituality to guide their actions. This has led many clients to successfully transform their relationships.  Also, as a family systems therapy specialist, I identify unhealthy patterns and individual problems in relationships that keep members stuck in conflict.  By changing the patterns, I help people develop respectful, meaningful relationships that promote connectedness. Why did you transition from minister to counselor? One of the aspects I enjoyed most about the ministry was working with people to help them resolve their relationship problems which I found often stemmed from communication issues. I used a crisis within my own marriage as the impetus to get additional training so that I would have the tools I needed to help people with their relational communication. Along with your one-on-one client work, do you have any other offerings? Yes, I facilitate seminars for couples, families and other groups. I’ve authored chapters for three books and I am writing a book about respectful relationships that will be available Spring 2011. I’m currently looking for opportunities to reach more people through writing, seminars and speaking engagements.
I heard you were writing a book. What is the subject and why do you think it is important to deliver now? The purpose of my book is to teach people about the urgent need to focus on bringing respect back into our culture – at home, at work, at school and in all other areas of life.  In my clinical counseling work I find that a lack of respect is at the core of many relational problems. Disrespect is impacting our culture today by weakening relationships, undermining authority and attacking human dignity. Do you facilitate workshops? Yes, I facilitate a variety of workshops focused on couples, pre-marital issues and all stages of parenting. Do you have any videos or other media offerings of your workshops for those not able to attend in person? I have authored chapters in three books which are available for purchase and I’m writing a book about respect that will be published in Spring 2011. Soon, I will have a DVD and streaming video content of my seminars available for purchase on my website www.donolund.com – as well a showcase of my books and other offerings. Click for more FAQs…
